USS Yorktown at Patriots Point
“Walk in the steps of heroes” when you visit Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, located just up the road from our resort. This museum is home to the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier, USS Laffey destroyer, and USS Clamagore submarine, as well as a Vietnam Experience Exhibit, the National Medal of Honor Museum, and various aircraft. Tickets start at $14.00 for children and $22.00 for adults, with discounts for military and senior citizens.
Ghost Tours on the Yorktown
Are the spirits of past heroes still on duty aboard the USS Yorktown? Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, the USS Yorktown (CV-10) Association, and the Charleston Attraction Group have teamed up to offer a special tour that allows visitors to investigate stories of sacrifice, heroism, and the unexplained.
Fort Sumter National Monument
The first shots of the Civil War were fired here. Catch a cruise to the island to learn about the fort and its place in history. The ferry to Fort Sumter is a ½ mile away from our resort.
Patriots Point Links
Enjoy a fun and challenging game of golf on this 18-hole course overlooking Charleston Harbor, located at the foot of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge just 1.2 miles from our resort. Amenities at Patriots Point include a lighted driving range with PGA instruction, a southern-style clubhouse, and a golfers’ grill and patio.
Downtown Charleston is full of things to do, as evidenced by being named the “Best City in America” by Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, and Southern Living magazines! From fantastic restaurants and bars to eclectic shops to historic homes and museums, this lovely and historic town is just waiting to be explored. Browse goods from local vendors at the historic Charleston City Market. Take a tour of the Aiken-Rhett House Museum, a historic 1800s home of the former governor. Enjoy savory southern fare in a Victorian locale at the award-winning Husk. Sip on handcrafted drinks at The Gin Joint. Walk down lively King Street and explore an array of restaurants, shops, art galleries, and other attractions. These are just a few of your options in downtown Charleston; the best way to experience the city is just by walking through it.
South Carolina Aquarium
Located just across the Cooper River from our resort, the South Carolina Aquarium is home to more than 10,000 plants and animals, including otters, sea turtles, alligators, hawks, seahorses, and sharks. The aquarium’s largest exhibit—the Great Ocean Tank—holds more than 385,000 gallons of water and contains more than 700 sea creatures. There is also a Touch Tank where you can touch and feel several species of invertebrates, like hermit crabs, sea urchins, and Atlantic stingrays.
The aquarium is open daily from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, and ticket prices start at $17.95 for children and $24.95 for adults. You can even take the Charleston Water Taxi from our docks to the Charleston Maritime Center, which is right next to the aquarium.
Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens
Lined on both sides with massive, moss-draped oak trees, the entrance to this plantation is a symbol of the southern heritage you’ll experience during your time in Charleston. Explore one of America’s oldest working, living plantations, and the #1 plantation in Charleston (according to USA Today’s 10 Best) by taking one of its many tours. Tour tickets start at $24.00 for adults, $12.00 for children aged 6-12 (children 5 and under are free), and $21.00 for senior citizens (65 and older) and military/AAA members.
This charming barrier island is home to beautiful beaches and a historic fort from the Revolutionary War, Fort Moultrie. Take a ride on Ollie the Trolley from our resort to the island for a day of fun, learning, and relaxation, minus the stress of parking.
Shem Creek Fishing Village
Shem Creek flows through the heart of Mount Pleasant, offering a variety of leisure activities like fishing, boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding. It is well-known for its shady, live oak-lined paths, unique shops, and waterfront bars and restaurants. Take a walking tour of the area to learn about area, including the importance of its shrimp industry.
Travel back to Colonial times on a horse-drawn carriage tour that will reveal more than 300 years of history, including antebellum mansions, churches, and gardens. A licensed guide in a Confederate uniform will inform and entertain you with historical facts, lore, and humor on this one-hour, narrated carriage tour, which covers more than 2.5 miles and 30 blocks of historic Charleston.
Ever wanted to learn how to sail? Now’s your chance! Ride the wind gracefully through enchanting Charleston waterways while learning the ropes. We have a variety of sailing vessels to choose from, each manned by experienced sailors who know how to interpret the rivers and channels, and bring the area to life. Oysters on the Point
This once-a-month winter series features locally steamed oysters and a wide selection of other creative dishes, as well as live music, a Bloody Mary bar, plenty of beer choices, and a variety of local art vendors. Oysters on the Point kicks off in December on the same day as the Charleston Parade of Boats, which can be seen from our beach. It is hosted on Saturday afternoons through March from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

Party at the Point
Charleston’s premier Happy Hour concert series takes place on Friday evenings from April to June. This family-friendly event is hosted on our beachfront and features live music and plenty of food and drinks.

Bazaar at the Point
On the fourth Wednesday of each month from April to October, we invite our guests and the local community to join us for this free event focused on locally sourced goods. Enjoy specialty food and drinks, arts and crafts, environmental education, kids’ activities, and more—all from local vendors.

Smoke on the Harbor BBQ Throwdown
Smoke on the Harbor BBQ Throwdown—a fully sanctioned national event with the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS)—takes place every November at our Lookout Pavilion. This annual event features two days of barbeque competition within a large competitor and vendor village offering numerous options for food and refreshments, live music performances, and an overall family-friendly, casual, and fun atmosphere.
